The unit, I used, had a 1/2" lip that overhung the mandrel on the motor which I sliced off using my angle grinder with cutoff wheel. Another advantage, of using this motor, is that it has a threaded mandrel, with a nut that is used to hold the blade, allowing you to install a pully without using a keyway (I'll explain what a keyway is later).

Dec 11, 2012· If not save your money. Beaumont Metal Works basic grinder without motor is 750. If you can find a used motor cheap, or a good deal on a new motor you will be into it for under a grand. The Pheer grinder above looks like a good deal for a variable speed unit but it doesn't look as solidly built as the KMG and 1hp is a little under powered.

This would work great for a belt grinder if I could only find some way to controll the motor without using ten 12v car batteries. So I did some research and found that the motor controller was called an MC60 and quite common. Used MC60 controllers could be had on eBay for around 30, new ones with warranty can be purchased on Amazon.
